🎢 Theme Parks (Merlin & Others)
Most major UK theme parks offer “always-on” accommodations rather than dedicated quiet sessions — ride access passes, sensory rooms, ear defenders, and social stories.
- Sensory Space (calm quiet room)
- Daily quiet hour 12–1pm (LEGO Store)
- Ride Access Pass (skip queues)
- Sensory guide for every ride
- Social story for pre-visit
- Free essential companion ticket
RAP eligibility criteria changed Feb 2026 (Merlin tried removing “Difficulty with Crowds”). After backlash, reverted. Monitor for future changes.
- CBeebies Land Sensory Room
- Chill-out space (Guest Services)
- Ride Access Pass
- Ear defenders to hire (£20 deposit)
- Sensory ratings on rides
- Changing Places toilets
Same Merlin RAP app as LEGOLAND. If Sensory Room and chill-out space are full, staff can direct to a quiet room at the Alton Towers Hotel.
- Staff autism training
- Sensory room (Durham confirmed)
- Free carer admission
Works at LEGOLAND, Alton Towers, Thorpe Park, and Chessington. It’s a virtual queue — you get a return time instead of standing in line. Register via the Merlin RAP app before your visit. You’ll need a Nimbus Disability Access Card (free at nimbusdisability.com).
These chains do not currently offer dedicated sensory-friendly sessions: Hollywood Bowl (disability discount only), Tenpin, MFA Bowl, David Lloyd, PureGym, English Heritage. KidZania London permanently closed in January 2024.
